Granite Street School

Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Here

Welcome to Granite Street Elementary School! We are a Pre-Kindergarten through grade five elementary school serving over 200 students. Our mission is to provide a solid academic foundation for lifelong learning within a safe and respectful environment. On a weekly basis, each grade level has a dedicated Professional Learning Community (PLC) block of time. A team of classroom teachers, title 1 staff members, and the principal use this time to analyze student data, make intervention plan, collaboratively plan lessons, discuss concerns and brainstorm solutions, share their expertise as well as new learning, plan for upcoming events, and more. Our school also provide academic and behavioral support through our Title I, Special Education, and 504 services.

The school's motto “Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Here” is embedded in every part of the school. Staff and students continually work together and strive to build a school community in which everyone feels safe, shows kindness, and provide an environment where people want to be here in our school.

Our students participate in art, music, physical education, computer, and library programs in order to provide a well rounded educational experience that extends beyond academics. Partnerships with other organizations provide extended activities for our students. These include a chorus group led by members of the Boreal Theater, an after school program through Health Kids, sport programs with Little Pros, and various year round activities provided by the Katahdin Regional Parks and Recreation.
