Granite Street School will now be using the IXL program. It is a web based program with thousands of math, language, social studies, science, and Spanish practice questions and modules that meet the Maine Learning Results Standards in ELA and Math for K-12 and some of the Next Generation Science Standards for grades 2-8. IXL will provide teachers additional instructional lessons that are aligned with our current math and ELA programs as well as giving students opportunities to practice targeted skills by using practice module which include lessons, games, and support and tips when they get a problem incorrect during individual learning time.
Students will be assessed three times a year and this data is immediately provided to teachers. This and other data will be used to by our grade level teams to make decisions about placement of students for small group and intervention instruction that best meet individual student needs. Their progress will be closely monitored and groups will change as needed throughout the year.
IXL provides one more way for us collaborate with each other and families in order to better meet the academic needs of our students. We look forward to sharing more about this program and how it is benefiting students as the year progresses.
